COYOTE combines a characteristically 1980s art-goth electric bass sound with aggressive drumming (more rhythm-oriented than heard in previous Kayo Dot music), through-composed modern-classical architecture, the psychedelic brass and woodwind sound of Ornette Coleman and Herbie Hancock, and the dramatic vocal wailing style of Scott Walker.
